Moving home or business in Cheam?

SJC Movers Ltd is a family-run removals company based in Carshalton Beeches, a short run west along the A232 through Sutton. Cheam is a genuinely local job for us rather than a trip across town, which keeps the timings tight and the quote sensible.

We move households, tenants, landlords and businesses right across Cheam and the SM3 and SM2 postcodes: a full house removal from a detached home in South Cheam, a flat move above the parades in North Cheam, or an office removal near the village. Cheam has noticeably more detached and semi-detached housing than most of our patch, so much of the work here is about bringing enough crew, van space and planning to clear a full household in one day.

The homes we move in Cheam

Cheam splits into three distinct parts, and each one moves differently.

Cheam Village sits on the crossroads between Sutton, North Cheam, South Cheam and Ewell, and much of it falls inside a conservation area designated in 1970. Around the mock-Tudor parade with its timber detailing and leaded lights you find period cottages and historic buildings, including Whitehall on Malden Road, a timber-framed and weatherboarded house dating from around 1500. Moves here usually mean narrow doorways, original floors and a careful carry past mature front gardens.

South Cheam is where the larger detached and semi-detached houses sit, many of them 1930s builds with driveways, garages and full lofts. These are volume jobs: more rooms, more furniture to dismantle and far more in the loft and garage than most people expect.

North Cheam centres on Victoria Junction, where the A24 London Road meets Malden Road, and adds flats and maisonettes above the shopping parades alongside interwar semis. Those moves come down to stairs, shared entrances and where the van can legally stop on a busy main road.

What a move in Cheam usually involves

Close to four in ten homes in Cheam are detached and around a quarter are semi-detached, so the questions we get asked here are different from those in a street of terraces. Two things shape most Cheam moves.

Volume, not just distance

  • Lofts and garages that have not been properly emptied in years
  • Sheds, garden furniture and outbuilding contents
  • Several wardrobes and beds needing dismantling and rebuilding
  • Enough van space and crew to finish in a day rather than three runs
  • Garden rooms and home offices that need a plan of their own

Driveways, gravel and mature gardens

  • Driveways that take the van but need a clear approach
  • Gravel and block paving where a loaded trolley does not run easily
  • Overhanging trees and hedges on the older village streets
  • Side gates and garden routes that are often the quickest way out
  • Village and main-road stretches where the van cannot simply sit for hours

Cheam falls under the London Borough of Sutton, so where a street does have restrictions, the council's guidance on loading, unloading and parking dispensations applies here exactly as it does across the borough. Tell us how the access works when you ask for a quote and we will size the crew and the van around it.

House, flat and office moves in Cheam

We tailor the service to the property and the size of the job rather than treating every move the same.

Family house moves

For the detached and semi-detached homes across South Cheam and the village, we handle protected carry routes, careful loading and organised unloading, with furniture dismantling and packing available. Larger houses often need two vans or a bigger crew, and we would rather book that in from the start than run out of space at four in the afternoon.

Flat and maisonette moves

Around North Cheam and the parades there are plenty of flats and maisonettes. These moves hinge on stairs, shared entrances, entry systems and where the van can stop on the London Road, all of which we plan for. A good fit for first homes, rentals and downsizing moves.

Office and business moves

For the businesses around Cheam Village, Station Way and the North Cheam parades, we move desks, chairs, files and equipment, and can work to timings that avoid the busiest part of the trading day. Tell us your priorities and we will plan around them.

Why Cheam chooses SJC Movers

A bigger property makes the choice of removals company matter more, not less. You want a team that turns up with the right numbers, protects the house on the way out and finishes the job in the day you booked.

We are a family-run local firm, and Cheam is comfortably on our patch.

Sized for bigger homes

Extra crew and van space costed in from the start, so a four or five bedroom move still finishes in a day.

Lofts, garages and gardens

The parts of a house that get left out of a quote. We ask about them up front so the price holds on the day.

Careful in period properties

Used to the narrow doorways, original floors and tight thresholds of Cheam Village's older homes.

Driveway and gravel savvy

We work out the carry route, the trolley run and where the van sits before moving day, not on it.

Dismantling and reassembly

Beds, wardrobes and garden furniture taken apart and rebuilt properly, so you are not left with a flatpack evening.

One local firm, every service

Removals, packing, storage and clearances handled by the same team, so nothing falls between providers.

Downsizing, decluttering and storage in Cheam

A good share of our Cheam work is downsizing: a family home of thirty years going on the market, and a smaller property that will not take everything. It is rarely just a transport job. There is usually sorting to do first, and a gap between what fits and what does not.

We can help you stage it. Packing services take the pressure off the weeks before, storage is arranged from £20 per container per week (+VAT) for the things you are not ready to part with, and a house clearance deals with what is left in the loft, garage and shed once the move is done. Probate and pre-sale clearances are handled the same careful way, at whatever pace suits the family.

If your sale and purchase dates do not line up, say so early. Moving into storage and out again later is straightforward when it is planned, and awkward when it is arranged the week before.

“Yesterday I used SJC movers for the first time. The booking process was seamless and when Jack arrived to move the various furniture and boxes nothing was too much trouble. Where we cover around Cheam

We cover the whole of Cheam: the village and Station Way, South Cheam towards the Sutton boundary and SM2, and North Cheam up towards Worcester Park and Morden. Nonsuch Park sits on the Cheam and Ewell boundary at the western edge of our patch, and we work on both sides of it.

Cheam station sits on the Sutton and Mole Valley lines between Sutton and Epsom, and plenty of our customers here are moving in or out along that corridor. For neighbouring towns, see removals in Sutton and removals in Wallington, or our areas we cover page for the full list.

Removals in Cheam: your questions answered

Do you cover removals in Cheam?

Yes. SJC Movers Ltd covers Cheam Village, North Cheam and South Cheam across the SM3 and SM2 postcodes, along with the surrounding parts of the London Borough of Sutton. We handle house and flat moves, office relocations, packing, storage and clearances.

Can you move a large detached house in one day?

Usually, yes, provided we know the full picture when we quote. Room count, loft and garage contents, garden items and the access at both ends decide whether the job needs a bigger crew or a second van. We would rather book that in up front than discover it at four in the afternoon.

Do you cover North Cheam and South Cheam as well as the village?

Yes, all three. The village and South Cheam are mostly houses with driveways and gardens; North Cheam brings in flats and maisonettes above the parades. We plan each one around the property rather than applying the same template.

Can you clear a loft, garage or garden room as part of the move?

Yes. It is one of the most common extras we are asked for in Cheam. Tell us roughly what is up there and out the back when you request a quote, and we will factor in the time and the space rather than treating it as a surprise on the day.

How much do removals in Cheam cost?

It depends on the size of the property, the access at both ends, the distance, how many movers you need and whether you want packing or storage. Because we are based nearby in Carshalton Beeches, travel adds very little to a local Cheam move. Send us the details and we will price it clearly with no obligation.

Can you dismantle and rebuild furniture?

Yes. Beds, wardrobes, tables and garden furniture can be taken apart at one end and reassembled at the other, which is often the difference between a smooth day and a very long one in a house full of flatpack.

Do you offer storage if my dates do not line up?

Yes. We arrange secure storage from £20 per container per week (+VAT), short or long term, which covers the gap when a sale and purchase do not complete on the same day. Let us know as early as you can so we can plan the move in and the move out.

How far in advance should I book a Cheam move?

As early as you can. Fridays and month-ends fill up first, and larger houses need the crew booking further ahead than a flat move does. That said, we take short-notice work whenever we have availability, so it is always worth asking even if your date is close.
